Boys Basketball - Lions Get 2nd Win 78-62 Over Hoquiam

BOYS BASKETBALL

KENNEWICK 78, HOQUIAM 62: Jenner Norwood had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and Saul Nieves added 18 points to lead the Loins to a win at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima.

Kennewick (2-4) was cookin’ on offense all night, but things really started to sizzle during a 28-point second quarter.

“Nieves was able to hit some shots from deep to get us going,” Lions coach Bradyn Leyde said. “In the second half, we were able to play some aggressive defense, get some stops and turn it into points.”

Kennewick is back on the SunDome court at 7:30 p.m. Friday against hometown Davis.

Lady Lions - Defeat Hanford 64-42

KENNEWICK 64, HANFORD 42: Freshman point guard Aislin Fiander scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Lions to a rout on their home court in MCC play

“(Fiander) played very well tonight and was good about getting the ball out to other people” Kennewick coach Ashley Williams said. “She worked well out of our press — we pressed a lot tonight.”

While Fiander led Kennewick (3-2, 1-1) on the scoring end, it was the Lions’ defensive effort that allowed them to pull away from Hanford (2-4, 0-2). Hailey Quast and Maya Thornton had six steals apiece as the Falcons scored just six points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.

Girls Basketball: Lady Lions Win Second Straight Behind Fiander

KENNEWICK 53, EISENHOWER 52: Freshman Aislin Fiander had 23 points in her varsity debut to lead the Lions to a comeback win in Yakima.

Kennewick (2-1) trailed by 10 after three quarters, and had to outscore Ike 21-10 in the final period to squeak out the one-point victory.

Klarissa Barajas added 12 points and eight boards for the Lions. Haley Wommack led the Cadets (1-5) with 21 points.

Boys Basketball: Lions Notch First Road Win

KENNEWICK 66, EISENHOWER 60: Leo Olmos had 23 points and the Lions picked up a road win to round out nonconference play.

Jenner Norwood had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Kennewick (1-2), and Tyler Pearson chipped in 10 points and five steals.

Eisenhower’s star Tyler Fichett accounted for half of the Cadets’ scoring with 30 points.

Kennewick will host Walla Walla at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first MCC game for both teams.
