Volleyball: Lions Win 3 Straight

By Annie Fowler

Kennewick had a tough time with serve receive Tuesday night, but the Lions countered with 25 kills from Breanna Shaffer to fend off the host Falcons 24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 15-6 in Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball action.

“We are on a roll right now,” Lions coach Brandy Sonderland said. “Hanford had some really tough servers. They had us on the ropes. Our serve receive was horrendous, but we were able to rebound from that. We got our heads turned around and got the competitive edge going.”

The Lions (3-2), who have won three in a row, will host Southridge on Thursday.

Caylee Shelton led the Falcons (3-2) with 24 kills and 20 digs, while Kaitlyn Thompson had 55 assists and 11 digs.

“It was a tough loss in five, but I could not have been more proud of them,” Falcons coach Nichelle Meador said. “We had plenty of offense, but we were playing not to lose. Kennewick’s defense is tough, they are a scrappy team.”
